Gary was all boy, always had grass stains on his jeans. And he grew up in church hearing that Jesus does miracles, so he thought, “Why not? I’ll ask Jesus to take the grass stains out of my jeans while I sleep.” And in the morning, yep! Gary Jarvis, pastor of South Blendon Community Church joins the team to share how Jesus won his heart as a boy. By working some pretty sweet miracles.
Then Gary shares how he knew early on that Jesus had called him to be a pastor. But he also knew he needed to work in the real world, outside the Christian bubble he’d lived in all his life so that he could learn to relate with people outside the church. And that’s what he did for 7 years before becoming a pastor. And last we hear how Jesus helped Gary in the most excruciating trial of his life: His son’s battle with Leukemia.
That’s what the Jesus followers of the Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, NC did one week after 9 of their African American brothers and sisters were gunned down in their church. That’s what Maverick City Music did last June in that same church on the 7th anniversary of the mass shooting. And that’s what we are called to do: To learn what it looks like to dance in the places of desolation.
Then Shawna woke up super anxious last week. It took her three changes of clothes to realize it! Next, Shawna shares grace with Perry about the pain of his teenage years. Then, we can learn to be so sure of God with us that we’d be able to sleep in a hurricane. Not an overpromise! Last, the way out of reliving, over and over and over, an offense done to us. Share this if you’re encouraged by it.
